QUICK TIPS: INTERIOR PAINTING

1. Walls. If your interior walls have not been painted in awhile and/or the colors are not very neutral it would be best to repaint. The best colors are beiges, tans, linens, even light yellow and sage. You want to make the rooms feel open and bright, with a hint of warmth. If you are handy, painting gives you the biggest bang for your money, makes the room look great, and gives the house that brand new feel with the smell of fresh paint.

2.
Trim. When painting trim, the most popular color is white gloss. The warm tans of the walls contrast well with the bright white trim. Even if some of your walls are the new darker tones, the white helps make the whole room pop.

3.
Overall. If you do repaint the walls, do not rehang or put up your personal items/pictures on the wall. Leave them blank, perfect palette for buyers to see how they can decorate with their items, not distracted with your stuff. It's OK to rehang a few items, maybe a picture over the sofa. In my listings I recommend bare walls, makes the rooms appear more spacious and open.

On the top of the list to do when selling a home: for the least amount of money is to make sure the house is clean from top to bottom, inside and out. No matter what you change or redo, buyers will be impressed with a sparkling, clean home, it is also a reflection on how well the home has been cared for in general. Remember these tips are general, do not always apply with all homes. For the best advise, have a local Realtor (my market includes Frederick, Carroll, Montgomery & Howard counties) come to your home and access what would be the best steps to take to get your home ready to sell.
